This equipment -- traditionally called a DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexer) is located in non-Verizon-owned space near the Central Office for each Verizon area we serve. Problems with a DSLAM are very rare, but we can get access to the equipment without any of the difficulties involved in accessing "collocated" equipment in Verizon Central Office facilities.
JLC buys "dry copper" loops from our Point-Of-Presence near the Central Office to each customer location, connects these to the DSLAM at our POP, and connects a DSL modem at the customer location. Once those are in place, we can configure your DSL service almost instantly.
Be warned, however, that the process of getting the "dry copper" from Verizon is not instantaneous: we typically experience delays of up to a month, and substantial costs.
Thus, we must ask for a deposit of $500 to install a JLC.net DSL circuit. We will refund any amount not spent in the Verizon initial and first monthly bills, but don't expect to see any!
If the Verizon installation charges exceed $500, you must agree to pay those as well, although we'll be happy to work out a payment plan.
JLC does not add any installation fees of our own.
Note, however, that there is a cost for the DSL modem. You may either buy this (estimated cost $175) or rent it from us for $10 per month.
| Bandwidth | Monthly Charge |
| 128,000 bits per second | $45 |
| 256,000 bits per second | $55 |
| 384,000 bits per second | $65 |
| 512,000 bits per second | $75 |
| 640,000 bits per second | $85 |
| 768,000 bits per second | $95 |
These charges are for the basic level service, which includes up to five non-routable IP addresses, up to five email accounts @jlc.net, and 20 megabytes of space on our www.jlc.net webserver (as well as telephone support).
If you feel the need for routable IP addresses -- for example if you want to run a server at your own location, we have a package including one routable IP address, domain-name service for one domain, and 128k bits per second of routable bandwidth for an additional $15 per month.
JLC places no limits on the number of computers you may connect or whether you may run servers over our DSL service.
If you need something not listed above, we'll be happy to work out fair pricing.
